He is the son of Haughton A. and Rosland Doak and was born in May
18, 1919 in Winnipeg, Manitoba . James completed High School in Winnipeg and
then received his LLB from University of Manitoba in 1942. He was commissioned a
Lieutenant in the armed forces and served with the Calgary Highlanders overseas
during WW 2. He received his "call to the bar" in 1945 after the War
and started practicing law in Winnipeg in that year. James became a prominent
lawyer in Canada and is written up in Who's Who in Canada. He was active in many
organizations including being the Provincial President and National Vice
President of the Manitoba Progressive Conservative Association.
James married Shirley Mae Smith in 1942 and they had three sons,
Russell, Graeme and Jim, in that order. After almost 60 years of marriage they
are both still active and enjoying daily rounds of golf.
